I own an unrestored '34 Ford. The car has low mileage, however the keys are worn and need some manipulation to work in the locks. A friend was kind enough to give me a few key blanks. Can anyone recommend a locksmith to cut new keys? The originals still have the Ford numbers. Thank you.

hi bentspoke If you cut the new keys using worn keys you will end up with the same problem, [ using a key grinder machine,] check the V8 TIMES for venders that specialize in keys and locks, use you original key numbers, they will cut the NEW keys to your numbers,, you will have to send your keys to them hope this helps 37Ragtopman

The key code shown in your photo is not for 34. FC and FD are the usual code prefix found on original lock cylinders. The football shaped key is for the trunk or rumble handle and the locking spare tire, same key. The round head is the ignition and door which should be the same key. Before contacting Phil and having him cut keys I would suggest you remove the door cylinder and confirm the key code stamped into it's side is the same code on the key. Also remove the trunk cylinder and confirm it's code. beside cutting keys Phil can repin a cylinder.

With respect, after looking at twenty or so '32-'34 original ignition lock cylinders, NOS and used, on hand, all have an FB prefix to the code, not FC or FD. This message was edited by 3w2 on 6-12-21 @ 5:43 PM

Excuse my error FD is a 1935 Ford. The important thing here is FT is not a proper 34 code. IMO confirming the code stamped upon the key is proper for the lock cylinders installed is important. It may be best to send the lock cylinders to Phil that will assure you get keys that fit and work properly.

For clarification.....FB was the original prefix for 32-33-34 key cylinders, BUT as time went on Curtis repeated the code listings and FT had the identical code set as FB. Later Curtis key books showed code listings for 32-34 cylinders under both the FB and FT prefixes. If a lock cylinder was replaced in later years, say 37 or after it probably would have the FT prefix.
