I would like to know what is the correct or accepted trim piece used on the 1946 / 47 /48 Glove Box. Did it make a difference what year the car is.? I have all ( 3 ) three cars and have seen three different styles. Plain ribbed, Ford script with 8 and with a 6. Trying to determine what they came with new and if the year made a difference as to which one they used. I find no reference to this in the "1941-48 Ford Book" Good pictures of the complete Dash, but no info on these trim pieces. Thank You, Steve. Thank You.! Steve

1946 used the trim with "6" or "8" depending on which engine the car came with. This may be also true of the early 1947 that used the 1946 exterior trim. The plain trim is correct for the "normal" 1947's and 1948's.

Appreciate your reply. I understand the "8" vs "6" indicated what Engine your Ford came equipped with. This all started as a friendly discussion, as they all do, and it still is.! Here's what I've got. A 46 "Super DeLuxe " Sedan with plain trim, that came with the car. A 47 "Super DeLuxe"Station Wagon (" Woodie") that came with the "Ford Script" and the #8 panel. A 48 Original Dash with a "plain" panel. As we all know "Henry" and his workers did pretty much what they wanted during production, ( particular on the 46-47 models) and left it up to us to figure out the changes or why.! I'am familiar with the different interior colors , Deluxe vs. Super Deluxe, knobs and dash trim, but don't think that is a factor in this Glove Box trim. I'll highjack your thread a bit if I might. My 1947 Deluxe business coupe uses gauges with silver needles. I see NOS gauges on ebay with gold needles, red needles, and rarely silver needles. My theory: Super Deluxe closed cars, gold needles, Deluxe silver, convertibles ,station wagons red ? Am I anywhere close?

My late year built'46 Super Deluxe Coupe has an 8 on the glove box door. Gauge needles are white.

Bob McCoppin wrote an article for the V-8 Times in 1974 that covers most of the questions about the gauges and needles. It was reprinted in the V-8 Album. Tom
