Topic: IGNITION TIMING WITHOUT A TIMING LIGHT

I recently timed my Crestliner staticly. I learned how to do it from and old "pro" when i was in my teens ( about 60 odd years ago) It's easy, super accurate , and good to know, if you don't have a timing light. ( I do have one)Here's how to do it for those that want to know.

Connect a test light to the output side of the coil, and ground the other end. Undo the 2 clips that hold the distributor cap on; and move it aside so you can so you can see #1 position. Then Nudge the motor to get the rotor positioned just before the points open for #1 cylinder, Put a box wrench on the bolt that holds the lower pully (on the crank shaft) Then turn the key to on. Turn that pulley very slowly until the test light comes on. when that happens, that is where your ignition is timed! If it is not timed to where the dot on that pully and the pointer on the motor align(2 degrees), loosen the hold down bolt on the distribotor, and move it ccw, or cw, until the light comes on when those two are aligned, and lock it in that position!

NOTE- It's easier to turn the pulley , if you take the spark plugs out.
