Topic: Accelerator pedal attachment to link rod

I thought I had solved this. I thought wrong. I replaced my old pedal (1935 Ford Coupe) with one that reflected a problem that could be fixed, and indeed was later during the run. The hole on the backside for the link was moved closer to the edge, giving the gas pedal more room not to be squashed during braking.

I took the old pedal off and saw that there's a rounded knob that fits in the pedal rubber socket. The new pedal...I cannot get that knob in. I was, and perhaps will try to undo the link under the hood. It's a straight rod.

Is there a method to get that old knob into the new pedal without taking the link apart? Or if not, does anyone have a way to undo the link?

Thank you. I'm thinking my garage needs an air conditioner.

Yes, the easy way to get the metal rod to fit into the back of the accelerator pedal is to spray both the inside of the hole on the pedal and the ball on the end of the rod with silicone spray lubricant. Place a vice grip on the rod near the floor to hold the rod in place while you mount the pedal onto the rod.
