I have replace the rear shocks with modern ones. Someone already did the front in modern so I made the rear change. Is it a good idea to remove the original real shocks? They will not hold flued so I replaced them but left the org on. May would work better if off. Anyone have experience with this?

It would help if you identified the year and model of your vehicle.
I have tube shocks on the front and rear of my '36 coupe. The rear shocks were put on the car using stock '48 Ford/Merc brackets, which was made easier because the rear end under my car is a 47-48 Columbia unit.
I retained the original lever shocks because they were in good condition, being double action they tend to minimize body roll thereby making the car more stable on the road..

If they won't hold fluid they are not helping on the back. I would remove them.
