What is the correct procedure to access back of speedometer gauge cover glass for cleaning ? Sam question for fuel / amp / oil / temp cluster glass. Thank you.

You first have to remove them from the dash --- dont forget to disconnect the battery before starting as you will be removing wires. Once out of the dash, i have found that you need to find the smallest flat screw driver blade you have and gently, bend the tabs in the back of the gauge so that you can remove the gauge housing. Once they gauge is removed, I have started with Windex w/ammomia and see what that does. In rare occasions, I have used tar and bug remover --- but that should not be necessary. Gently put the pieces back together and bend the tabs back with a long nose plyer. Others will have more suggestions no doubt. I should also mention that once you have the gauge apart, you can also polish any housing pieces. This message was edited by nelsb01 on 5-3-21 @ 4:32 PM

The best glass cleaner is a couple of drops of dish washing detergent in a pint spray bottle and then fill the bottle with water. Warning: more is not better in this case. I have been using this method on all of my windows since the 1950's and they always come out clean and streak free. While you have your gauges out, spray a little detail spray on a microfiber cloth and gently wipe the face of the gauge. It is a good idea to do a test on a corner that is not visible to make sure that you don't wipe off the paint. I used my window cleaner solution on a NOS gauge and it took all of the paint off. Tom
