Is there a trick to replace a fan belt
I just put on 2 new water pumps
I have a new belt but wow it’s hard to get it on.

Try unbolting the generator and dropping it down as much as you can. Once the belt is on, you should have enough clearance to get the bolt back in. Be careful raising the generator not to bend anything while raising it to tighten the belt.

If it's any consolation, I get bruises like that on my left arm all the time.

When replacing a belt, it is recommended that you purchase the new one from a vendor who sells the correct type. The correct belt is contoured on the sides to grip the pulley. Modern belts of have to be extremely tight to prevent slippage and can depend on bottoming the belt in the pulley. C&G sells them for your "36 as 40-8620 V8. $21. 800/266-0470
