Folks, I just took delivery of a 39 Ford Standard Coupe, from NC. I was checking it out today and I think the engine is a later one. It has a Mallory electronic ignition with 2 mounting bolts. The heads are stamped 59 A B. Everything I’ve seen on the early V8s shows 3 bolts on the distributor. I’ve looked on the bell housing with a cable camera, but can not see any stamping, only L2364. Any thoughts? Thanks Tom

Shoovel, That's a beauty! The distributor is not original, so you cannot go by that, nor whether the timing gear cover has 2 or 3 bolts, as that is replaceable. The heads are a better indication, but may also have been original to another engine. The number 59, if your engine is of 1945-1948 vintage, will be large, a couple inches tall, centered on the engine bell, and should be visible from the engine compartment. If you do see the 59, it may or may not have a letter after it. Alan
