solved my gauge problem temporarily. since I can't find correct fluid I inserted a thin clear plastic rod and painted it red. It doesn't do anything but adds color where the fluid would be. I left enough rod that it can be pulled out if I get the fluid. Clever huh? or has it been done before?

I understand that the straw from a WD40 spray can works also. Here is a source for the fluid if that is all that you need to get the gauge working again. https://straight-eight.com/product-category/king-seeley-hobson-fuel-gauge/page/2/?orderby=price They also have the repair kit and parts for the King-Seely fuel gauge.
