Any have a drawing or photo of how the spare tire lock assy is put together?

I think "wmspeed" explained it well. However, if you get a blank key from one of the suppliers like Mac's as was mentioned a number of posts ago and you can find a good lock smith, they should have no problem making you a key.

Some of the early Hurd lock cylinders are very difficult to pick and unlock. The key and pin impression method is probably the only way to get the lock unlocked without doing a lot of damage. Check on the web and you may be able to find a video so you can do it yourself with a small triangle shaped file. The Hurd football shaped blank is reproduced. Don't lose the key and if lost spend a lot of time looking for it!

With all my old Fords I make two extra sets of keys. One to be hidden somewhere outside the passenger compartment of the car and one set at home.

My mistake, the ILCO 1125 H6 key fits the gas cap, not the spare tire lock

If the lock is out and you can see the number on the cylinder, Don Rogers or two guys on Fordbarn can make a new key.

That is his problem, he lost the key, the key is different from the others. The cover is on the car. his locksmith was unable to pick it. Thus if he has to drill it out, he will need another lock. Anyone have one?

Check on Fordbarn or with Michael Driskell at ThirdGenAuto who has a lot of NOS parts. If Michael does not have it he probably knows who may have it.
