Topic: HEADLIGHT SWITCH (1950 Ford Car)

I recently purchased a set of black knobs for the dash switches on my Crestliner, because when I purchased the car they were all ivory, and they were supposed to be black. I pushed up on the release button on the bottom of the head light switch, and pulled the old one right out! Then I installed the one with the black knob on it. It didn't go in all of the way! About 1/8th inch is sticking out. Well, I pushed on that release button on the bottom of the switch, and tried to pull it out, and it would not come out! ( and I tried 3 or 4 times, and pushed really hard-so hard that my finger hurt!!) I even tried to rotate it while pushing on the release- No Soap!! Darn Carpenter CHINESE? junk!! Anybody got any idea (S) of how to get it out???

I think that I'm going to put a very small 'C" clamp on it and just tighten it down just enough to put pressure on that release, and then see if the shaft comes out. Maybe finger pressure isn't pushing it enough, or evenly enough, to release it. I'll let you all know how I make out, and we can all learn something! I know from previous times (like relacing a head light switch), that shaft can be cantankerous to remove!

I GOT IT OUT!! Had to use an "off-set" screw driver on the back edge of the dash as a lever, and pry the release up! Tried a small 'C" clamp- it wouldn't open enough to fit, and one a little bit larger was to big to get it into that area.
