Topic: Positive Ground Question

My question is not about my 46 coupe rather it is for my 55 Ford F100 that is 6 volt positive ground. The previous owner had a 12 volt heater motor which I need to swap out for a 6 volt. I see many of our parts houses sell the universal 6 volt motors but if I was to get one, would I need to reverse the wire connections (ground to power vice-versa) since my system is positive ground? Many thanks for your inputs.

Probably, it depends on where you get your motor and if it is designated as a NEG ground motor. I would hook it up and try it, if it runs backward reverse the leads.

If there are two separate wires to the motor, and no connections to the body, you can connect it either way. Just be sure the the rotation is correct for the fan pitch so it blows thru the core.

Thanks guys. One wire will ground to the firewall. A thought just occurred....although I am looking for a 6 volt motor, before I spend any money, I wonder if the motor in the heater from my 46 Coupe would work?

it should run on 6 volts. this would be half speed, most heater have 3 or 4 speeds, and this is like using a resister to drop the voltage, instead the voltage is dropped already,by using a 6 volt battery,

all DC motors will run in either directions, just reverse the wires and make sure it is blowing in the right direction,
