Topic: Hood Release Cable Install

I've owned (4 ) 1950 cars over the past 65 years, and they all had the hood cable bent to about a 45 degree angle, and one was bent into a "U" turn after it was put through the retaining ferrule, to make it "Fail Safe," in case the ferrule retaining screw got loose. My Crestliner cable broke at the retainer screw; and I'm thinking that whom ever tightened it, made it too tight, making it "Cut into the cable" thus, weakening it, at that point, and making it break .

That being said; It was a fantastic amount of work to remove the center section and bullet of the grill, and the parking lights to get the hood open; and I never want to go throught that process again! I want to lube and install the new hood release cable, install the ferrule,Put Lock Tite on the locking screw,
and tighten it.Then bend the end of the cable;maybe into a "U turn" ( because sharp turns could probably weaken it) to ensure that that ferrule can't ever come off.
I would appreciate any comments about this process How about it TOM O, and some of you other experienced guys; What are your thoughts.??

Regards, Steve Lee
