What is the correct gage for the battery to solenoid to starter cables on a six volt system?

Most vendors should have what you want (C&G, etc), the heavier the better. Some use welding cable.

2 awg; if you can get it;otherwise 4awg. The heavier the better with 6 volts!

1/0 is larger than 2 AGW

Duh! I know that; but that heavy isn't neccessary. If the tuning is all done correctly, the car will start very well with the cables that Carpenter and all of the other venders sell. My '40, and my '50 start almost "INSTANTLY" with the standard cables.

One BIG misnomer is, a lot of people out there think that the timing is supposed to be set with the dot on the crank shaft pulley, 2 degrees "ahead" of the pointer on an 8ba V8. I tell them, "Okay; tell me how your going to figure out where that is?" "They say uhhh, uhhh!" Two degrees is when the dot on the crankshaft, and the pointer are aligned! That is why a lot of them have starting problems! Not the size of the battery cables.(unless they are using 12 v cables, on a 6v system!)
