The engine in my 1936 Ford has heads with casting dates in the 1940’s. It’s a 21 stud
Where can I locate a block number or some way to I’d the engine

Engines do not have a number other than casting numbers. The number on your car which is a sequential production number can be found on the transmission. It is stamped on a flat boss just above the inspection cover.. The same number is also found on top of the left frame rail somewhere between the steering box and the front crossmember.

I'd like to add: The number on the transmission is your serial number IF your car has the transmission it had when it left the factory. The possibility of that being the case is very slim.
