On a weekly cruise my 36 sputtered and stalled. It refired. Went 5 more miles and died. I limped it home jerking and bucking all the way. I thought maybe bad gas. I thought maybe the gauge wasn’t accurate and filled the tank. I replaced the coil and all new plugs. I had a leaky water pump that dropped on distributor. I’ve removed pumps and pulled distributor. I bought an igniter. Even as it was the recommended kit for my car it didn’t fit(I have a Mallory dual point). We machined the old plate to take the igniter. Now; the original plate is metal and attracts a magnet. The replacement plate(not used) is aluminum. Will it matter using the original plate. Will it interfere with the igniter? To be safe, ask the supplier that sold you the parts. Tom
