Topic: Trunk Lock

The tumbler assembly on my 1950 car moves in a little "in" when I put the key in to unlock the trunk, and a little out"out" when I pull the key back out? (About 1/32" of an inch.)
I took the tumbler assembly out and found that there are (2) little brass pins that hold ithe tumbler assembly in; but the pin in the back (towards the front of the car) doesn't come up when I turn the key., it is always in the down position! The one near the key, does; but that one has a little play in it (like the little brass pin is too small for the hole.) The pin towards the front of the car will come to the up position, if the part is out and I turn it with the pins towards the floor, and shake it, or tap on it,) but it does not come up when I turn the key to lock when I have the tumbler out.
Do I just replace the tumbler and keys;( about $30 + ship) or the big chrome piece that the tumbler goes into., (about about $100.+ship. )I'm thinking, just the tumbler and keys. Shipping parts to me, and back can be costly ; so I'm trying to make the right decision! What say you guys??

Regards, Steve Lee

Try posting this on the FordBarn EV8 Forum. There are a few fellows there that cut keys and repair cylinders. Sounds like yours has a broken spring, similar to ones used in ball point pens. FWIW
