Topic: Valve guide seal installation

Hello everyone! I've recently started to install the valve assemblies into my 59ab engine, I'm using the later one piece valve guides. My question pertains to the intake valve assemblies that have the square section rubber valve guide seals. I've as yet only installed two intake assemblies and experienced extreme difficulty in trying to get the seal to compress enough to allow me to pull the guide completely into the block. A thin ring of rubber was jaggedly sheared off the outer diameter of each seal, and I had to apply so much force to the valve tool to try and pull the guide through that the bottom part of the guide got pretty chewed up. Do any of you have any tips or advice on a better way to install the intake assemblies? I'm convinced there has to be a better way, thanks!!!

proper size o rings is what most people use. use them only on intake valve guides, no seal on exhaust valve guides. e-mail alan48@charter.net and I will send you some

I had the same issue. I took a die grinder and put a small chamfer on the top edge. That helped along with a round cross section o-ring. Also lube the guide and seal with oil. They should slide right in.
