VIN does not have the 18 - in front of number or the star Is this common?

Have you removed enough paint from the frame rail? Looks lkie there is a STAR after the last number, so the STAR and 18 - could be farther to the left. This was all done by hand, so there can be some space between numbers. Also, dont get too carried away with a grinder as the numbers sometimes are very weakly stamped to begin with and you could accidently remove them. Light sandpaper is recommended. Thanks Uncovered star nothing else. Read in restoration manual that the 18- was sometimes ommitted
