Topic: Headlight Bulb Replacement on '35 Ford

SRRoberts    -- 12-03-2020 @ 5:40 PM
I have a burned out headlight bulb, and I don't know how to get the headlight rim off. I have released the spring loaded latch at the bottom of the headlight rim and know that there is a "catch" at 12:00 o'clock. The headlight rim can be rotated, but I don't know how to remove it from the headlight bucket. Any advice is appreciated.

What year and model are your vehicle? Rotating ring and spring loaded do not come to mind.

Yes the stainless rim does fir in a lip at the top of the headlight bucket. Since you say that you have released the clip and spring at that bottom, pull the rim out to clear the bottom and grab the rim by the sides and try and lift up.
Once the rim and lens are removed, the bulb is a twist and lock style and you should be able to see which way to twist to remove.

Hope this helps.

The car is a 1935 touring sedan. The latch at the bottom is spring loaded, and when it is released the headlight rim can be rotated, but that doesn't help it come off. It should come off by pulling forward from the bottom.

Yes, your reply helps, thanks. And that's how the other side headlight rim comes off. This side doesn't come off so easily, so I plan to heat it up a little to see if that will help.
