Hello everyone I recently got a 1953 ford customline with the 3.9l flathead v8 and the crankshaft pulley snapped while I was driving yesterday. I have been looking for a replacement and cannot seem to find one as my car has power steering and requires the three belt pulley not the two belt pulley. Any advice as to where I could locate the correct pulley would be much appreciated. Thanks

Yeah I'm taking it to a welder tomorrow to see what they say. Just have to get the rest of the pulley off of the engine. Thanks

My 1953 Ford or 1953 Mercury parts catalogs do not have power steering parts listed. I am not sure if the 54 crankshaft pulley would fit your car, but there are 5 of B54A-6312-A on Rear Counter. https://www.rearcounter.com/B4A-6312-A-parts1526589.html There are reproductions available on E-Bay and that may be a better option than welding the cast iron. In the 1950's Ground Mole machine shop in Bad Axe, Michigan would weld broken cast iron gears from sickle bars and manure spreaders with a novel "eutectic" rod that had two melting point metals in an alloy. Heliarc in the 1960's was probably a better choice but who did something like that in 1960? Braze welding would alloy joining the broken pieces but in spite of the motto on a sign at an An Arbor Shop, "we weld anything but the 'break of day'", probably would be not strong enough and you really need to mount the object in a lathe face to retain symmetry and balance. The best thing would be to make a new one from billet. Paint it black and no one will be the wiser. Maybe sand or bead blast it to give an "as cast" appearance? I had a friend who had the front pulley on his Triumph TR-4 fail after a while with an add on Judson Supercharger. What did he do? I don't remember.

If you are a V-8 Club member use the roster and call Craig Gorris in Ohio or Ray Beebe in New York. Those two may have the part or may know where to obtain one. They wrote the book on the '52-53 cars.

Another fellow in our club's roster who might have one of those 1953 power steering pulleys, or in the alternative know where to get one, would be Michael Driskell in Tennessee. The passenger car and pickup truck flathead Ford V8 lived on until 1954 in Canada. You might find such a pulley there. Possibly Vern Kipp in Ontario? Or perhaps one of the many members in British Columbia?

I have a good spare one of those, part # EAC6312A. I see there are aluminum repo's available for $575 which is pretty far out there. The one I have for sale has slight damage at the keyway entrance which is pretty typical of that thin casting area otherwise shows very little wear. What kind of value do you have in mind?
