I know this discussion has come up several times but I need some feedback from others that might have already been through this. I bought led tail lights for my Model A (the whole unit) and they work great plug and play. Since then there are plenty of led options just for light bulb replacement which is much cheaper. So for my 1936 Ford Model 68 (positive ground) I plan to buy a Brakelighter third brake light, even though not the cheapest seems to be the best option, let me know if you think different. Next I would like to replace the standard brake/turn signal light bulbs with led bulbs, I also converted my front parking lights to be for directional lights and would like to put in an amber led bulb in. Question is will the led bulbs work okay, my main concern is the directionals, maybe not have enough amperage draw I have heard. So I see mention of an inline resistor, where would it go and what size. Thanks for any help.

I for one highly recommend the third brake light -- Brakeligher. Nicest guy ever to deal with. For me, he took my order over the phone, credit card number, shipped it to me, and then said if you like it, call him back and he would charge your card. Something to think about -- start with the Brakelighter. You may not need to change your taillight bulbs. Lets be honest here, no one looks at brake lights any more -- they are all looking at the third light. While my taillights are bright (not as bright as a 2019 vehicle), the Brakelighter works and is bright enough on my 1949.

I have LED brake lights and 2 Brakelighters (2 because of the split rear window and the need for a clean installation) on my 40 Merc and they are finally bright enough for the modern drivers to see. I don't have turn signals on it because I haven't found a way to install a switch that doesn't look clunky to me. The Brakelighter bar is easy to install and bright enough to be seen. I made metal mounts for my installation using one piece long enough to allow holes to be drilled for the mounting and wide enough to allow the light to be above the interior trim. I cut them so that there are 2 strips to mount the light and the long part is concealed under the rear trim strip. My Lincoln still has the regular bulbs in it, with a 3rd brake light from a GM truck mounted on the package shelf, with magnets, so it can be returned to original without any sign of its being installed. I haven't changed to LEDs on it because of the way that the flasher is installed. I have done a lot of looking and the best solution that I have found for the flasher problem is the relay type flasher (Signal Stat 181) sold by Signal Stat. It does not depend on current draw like the thermal flashers, so it flashes at a fixed rate that you can adjust by taking the cover off and changing the point gap. Tom

I just ordered my Brakelighter third brake light. Can't wait to install it, cuz I live on a busy street where some people are going 50 mph, every time I go to turn in my driveway I see a car barreling towards me and I feel they don't see me slowing down, its a scary feeling.

I installed a Brakelighter as the first thing I did to my '39, 13 years ago. I lived in the city and wanted the added safety too. I set it up to act as a 3rd brake light and a right and left turn signal. A REALLY nice advantage. I also put foil tape on the inside of my left and right tail light capsules to increase reflectivity and I'm still running the 6v incandescent bulbs. It brightened them up quite a bit. I also added 6 volt LED headlights. Major difference! My lights are now brighter than a 20 year Honda 12 volt system. It was the best thing I've done to this car, because I can come home in the dark after car shows when the days get short. If you find a good source for the other LED bulbs, like the front amber turn signals let me know.

I installed my Brakelighter third brake light today, all I can say is WOW I feel so much safer when making a turn or stopping, its nice and bright, very visible. I don't like those crimp wire connectors that came with it ot cutting the harness so I made two little pig tails that work great. 1936 Ford Model 68

So I found several options on eBay for 6 volt (pos ground) led light bulbs and decided to try a few. I just put two in for the front parking lights which I turned into directionals. OMG super bright you can not miss these. They come in white or amber. My lights still blink as they did with standard bulbs, so now I'm going to try some tail light bulbs and see what happens. 1936 Ford

I am surprised that it is possible to install LED light bulbs on a 1936 Ford. How’s the result? What do you think, would it be a good idea to install interior LED strip lights from vont.com in 1940 Ford? I’ve inhered this car from my grandfather, and now I want to make something cool with it by making it look more colorful and brighter. That’s why I want to install such lights. I will not have to make any holes ant ruin the car in any way because I can install these LEDs using strikers only. So, what do you think in general about this idea? hey FordHead,I too am using leds in a couple places. have some led head light bulbs that wer real reasonable around$30 bucks for pair. less power draw of course,brighter whiter light,BUT since the lenses on my '37 fordor are fluted they are not focust down road but enable oncoming to see me better. i dont drive after sundown. i have unity clear driving lights mounted on the bumper brackets which project some. i too have a led brakelighter installed which right away i noticed a great improvment in tailgaters and distracted soccer moms on their phones. lets face it the tail lights on these old thirties cars are mounted pretty low down and people are so d*mn lazy. i also found a pair of #63 style leds for my instument light sockets much better than the dim yellow previous bulbs.
