Maybe a dumb question, but where should one position a floor jack- front and rear ?

I jack on the rear end -- front axel == old fords are tuff use good jack stands if you go under--good stands!!!! tudorbilll

There are numerous opinions on this question. I jack my '46 Coupe from the center of the rear axle and the center of the front axle. I put a 3/4 x 4 x 4" piece of plywood on the jack "cradle" so rim doesn't contact the axle or banjo housing and possibly cause a nick.

And depending on what kind of floor jack you have -- there are rubber pad inserts that you can buy to minimize damage when jacking. I have a Sears ton and half and have replaced the 'cup' with a flat rubber pad (attached to steel).
