Need detailed instructions on disassembly of shift levers from shift shaft on steering column. Have bottom 1/2 of end cap removed. Top 1/2 at end of shaft will not release. Must remove to remove shift levers for new bushing installation. Dont' have picutures in jpg or acceptable format. Thanks. '51 Coupe Flathead with stick OD... Tom Leonard 206-499-4152

I don't recall having to remove the column and/or shift levers to replace the bushings on the shift rods. The common replacement bushings are a two piece affair that thread together. I'm going by memory on this item, "sometimes I can be wrong, but then, I might just be mistaken." Bill 36 5 win delx cpe

The bushing kit is a rubber donut with a brass insert that creates the passage for the pin. on the trailing side of the lever a washer slides over the brass bushing tube end and we have to crimp the brass out using a swage tool and a hammer on an anvil or vice. It's sort of like a clumsy rivet set up. Can't be done while the lever is in postion on the shifting shaft. It may be that the steeting wheel has to come off and the rod for the shifting levers might need to slide up to remove them from the shaft. I have seen a Youtube video that shows the shifting lever at the steering wheel move AND the lower of the two levers on the bottom of the shaft moving in unison. This was viewable by removal of a panel around the steering column on the firewall. Makes me think that getting the shifting levers off the shifting shaft is a really big deal. May have to live with cr*ppy bushings until I can understand how this all goes together. Any help is appreciated. Tom
