Topic: 34 ford Banjo rear

Two questions???? I am rebuilding my 34 rear. The kit I ordered does not have any shims for the pinion, to set back lash. I called company and was told the only shims I need be concerned with are the ones between the axle tube bell and the center section-- measure old one and replace with same thickness. Is this correct?
The other question is about the axle seal inside the tube on the wheel end. Is this hammered in from the bell end or is it pulled in from the wheel end ?
Thanks for your help

Backlash is set with the gaskets at the bells. I can't help with the seals.

Go to this site, then down to DIFERENTIALS. Tom Endy has shared many articles on differentials. Although there are references to the Model A, there are a lot of common practices that will help guide you through the process.

Backlash is set with the gaskets. Shims are only needed when setting the pinion depth. If you are using reproduction gears you will need to shim the LH carrier bearing. Most times, those "kits" lack a few needed items.
The seals are installed from the inside of the bell and removed towards the inside. We sell a special tool to install them, and I have made my own tool to remove them as it can be tough.

If you are using repo gears ,my experience you will have to shim the pinion depth,I get the shims from summit, they are a Strange engineering part, let me know if you want the p/n.
and easier way to set the depth and hence the tooth pattern.

Lawrie Sharing your info on P/N for the shims, and the process you use to set the depth would be appreciated, either in a reply here, or in a PM
