i want to change tires on a 40 coupe from bias ply to radials will radial tires seal on stock rims or is it better to install tubes also going from 600/16 bias to 650/16 radial any problems with the wheels

done that change on more than one car/pick up truck and no problems, just make sure your rims are not rust pitted and the sealing area is really clean

I would be a little reluctant to use 650 x 16 radials on a stock Ford 4" wheel. Radial tires are high pressure tires, usually 32 to 34 psi. When I was in my early teens my father had a lot of problems with wheels splitting at the bead line when he used 650 or 700 tires on a stock Ford or GM 1/2 ton wheels. I think that generally speaking 650 x 16 tires are 6 ply rated in lieu of 4 ply. I would ask your tire dealer if 650's would be a good idea. Of course there probably is no spec's available that tells exactly what the load range is for stock '30/'40 wheels. Modern wheels, 1960 and later generally have the weight rating stamped into the rim. I wonder? Why do you want 6.50 x 16 tires on your '40 Ford? Bill 36 5 win delx cpe

hi and thanks with the changes you made did you use tubes have any split wheel problems should i stay with 600/16 or you think 650/16 is no problem and ok to usei thought 650 would ride better maybe im wrong

alanwoodieman uses 195 80 R 16 Ecopia Bridgestone EP02 about the same dia as the original 600 16. Maybe he'll post a photo of his woodie that he runs these on. They really look great on his car. I think I remember him using them on a '40 coup as well. Ken
