Topic: 47 Ford/Merc horn button connection

Are there any images for the inside of the steering wheel and how to hook up the wire to the horns? I think I have all the stuff, but putting it together isn't obvious. Love to see a picture or diagram. Thanks, Mel in Placerville

The horn circuit is simple. Remove the horn ring or button by pushing it down and turning it counter clockwise to remove it. You will find a screw on the ring that connects to the wire that runs down inside of the shaft and out of the bottom of the steering gear. That wire goes to a post on the horn relay on the fire wall. There are two other wires to the relay. One is to the battery, or other source of power, and the other to the horn(s). When the ring is pushed down, it provides a ground to the relay, and the horn(s) blow. It is common for the wire to the horn ring to be broken after years of use. Use a stranded wire for the ring to relay. The relay seldom fails. but be sure the connections are correct and tight. Test it by grounding the terminal with the wire to the steering wheel.
