Can anyone recommend the best 6 volt Batterie. (Positive Ground System) I read about three different type of batteries but am confused which is best for 1940 Ford flat head. Only started every few weeks is part of the problem so I need a long lasting battery. Thank you. Thank You, Harry8750

I prefer the Optima within the Ford case. Pricey (up front)perhaps but they last for a LONNNGGGG time. Mike "Kube" Kubarth

I also recommend the Optima with the script case, but it is my second choice without the case. The case makes it easier to install and looks better. If you do not have the case, you must fabricate a hold down to secure the battery so it is not damaged or causes damage. The Optima is a sealed battery and does not release acid fumes that can cause corrosion of the cables and tray. Sealing the battery also helps to reduce self draining of the battery. Open cell batteries can accummulate a mixture of electrolyte and dirt on the top of the case that will drain the battery. I also remove the grounded strap from the battery when my car is not being used. Doing this prevents draining the battery by the clock and is insurance against fire started by a short. Tom

I'm using a NAPA (I believe grp2) battery, have a battery disconnect, sits for days/weeks at a time. No problems. Paul in CT

I also use an Optima in my '40 coupe. I have it in a original style 6 volt battery case.

You guys with bstteries under the hood can use the fake case a lot easier than the 32-36 whose batteries are under teh front floor. For the 32-36 Fords with batteries under the drivers feet. the Optima fits in the battery basket at a 45 degree angle and should be strapped down. You can also extend the battery boasket downward and put the Optima upright, but you need to build a box to keep it from moving around in the basket. I moved mine (34 Fordor) to under the back seat riser. Does not hang low and is much easier to get at and service without tearing the front taupe floor mat, which breaks easily. Any way I still can't see it unless its on a lift, or I take the seat cusion out. 1934 Ford's since 1972

Mike I did go with the OPtima. I went to NAPA Auto Parts and did pick up a 6-Voly Optima. Battery part No.#N996VRED ( NAPA Red Top Battery BCI No. 1 800 A Glass Mat ) The Price was only $206.99 plus tax. What a difference starting, I highly Recommend this battery. The Optima with Ford Script was very expensive at $375.00 plus shipping. Thanks for all the help once again. Thank You, Harry8750
