Topic: Correct Light Bulbs

victorb    -- 07-04-2020 @ 10:27 AM
  1940 Ford pickup. 6volt.
Trying to find correct 6volt bulb part numbers.

Both of the front parking light bulbs look like #51’s but the part number on them is unreadable.

The tail lights have a T1129 in the top slot, but the bulbs in the bottom slot have no numbers.

Where is a good source to get new bulbs?

Thanks, Brent

Brent, check the V-8 Times advertisers or go to links on the front page of this site and look at vendors. Most of the vendors listed carry the correct bulbs.

Seems to me the parking lamp bulbs are #55. I think the #51 fit but are not quite as bright.
Tail lamps are one bulb, dual filiment, #1154 as I recall.

Napa...

Bulb number 51 has 1 candle power and was not used as parking lights. Number 63 has 3 candle power and was the original bulb used. Want you need is number 81, has 6 candle power! Local car parts store should carry them. Note: #55 has 2 candle power.

You have two tail light bulbs ? Interesting. Maybe a modification.

If I read your post correctly, you have 2 bulbs in one housing. The stop light should be 16.8 watts (1129 bulb) and the tail light should be 6.6 watts (81 bulb).

If you have a single bulb tail light, the bulb would be a 1154 if the posts are staggered to ensure correct installation or 1158 if the posts are aligned. The 1158 should have "Top" stamped on the base to ensure correct orientation when installed.

  Tom,
Your are correct. The rear taillight housing has two bulbs. The top bulb is a T1129. I can’t find any number on the bottom bulb. The posts on the bottom bulb are aligned.
Thanks, Brent

All single contact bulbs have the pins aligned. You can get the 1129 and 61 bulbs at most auto supply store or order them from Amazon or Rock Auto.
