Topic: Transmission ID Help

I've got a 3 speed top loader transmission with the number H33170 stamped at the top of the bell housing.
Looking at the Van Pelt serial number list, it shows this number to be for a 1937 Linc. - Mercury V12. Am I reading the serial number list correctly??
The number on the rear of the casing is 78-7006.
I've got the transmission mounted in a 1939 Station Wagon. Not sure where the transmission came from, it was included in a lot of parts that came with the car.
Cheers,
Al

H is the prefix for Lincoln serial numbers. The Lincolns used a different gear set in the standard Ford case. If your happy with the vehicle performance as you drive through the gears your good to go. You may or may not have the Lincoln gear set in the transmission you have, since the Ford gear set also fits and works well in the same case. You have to take the top off the transmission and count the number of teeth on the gears to determine if the gear set is Ford or Lincoln.
