I'm trying to replace the flexible line to the fuel pump of my 36 which has a stock fuel pump. The fuel line side fits fine, and it screws into the fuel pump OK, but the end of the fitting will not let the male and female tapers seat, I used some bluing, used to check valve seating which confirms this.Has anyone else had this problem? Of course the part is made in china,no fault of the supplier I'm sure, because it is a well known one.

The under side of the nut flats must be up against the body of the pump,try flat fileing a kind of step over the hole in the pump which will allow the nut to go into the hole more and mate up to seal. Put some wadding in the hole to catch the fileings so's they don't enter fuel system when done, ken ct

I had this problem as well. But having a small lathe, I chucked the fuel pump end fitting, (the hose fits through the lathe head) and cut the hex back about a 1/16", down to the diameter of the minor diameter of the threads on the fitting. It scr*w*d in tight and no leak.

I don't have a lathe either. .915- .025 will give you approx. 1 more turn on the fitting. lol ken ct

Nice to see others enjoying this problem as well as myself. I have two NOS flex lines but being old stock I knew they would not take todays gas. My point is, the end taper on new ones is about ten degrees off from old. One taper being 35 degrees and the another is 45 degrees as best I can tell. I have experimented with faucet washers which seem OK if they are fibre. I just bought some other ones and soaked a couple in a bottle of gas overnight. It swelled up but was intact so I used it only to find out it did go bad with gas flow. So scratching my head, I had some modern gas hose and cut a piece about 1/8"long, countersunk just a tiny bit. Had to put it on a punch and lightly run it against a disc sander to size it down a teeny bit in OD. It is in the pump nice and snug ,no leaks and hope it has the problem licked finally ! Also, I had countersunk the pump opening to allow the hose to go deeper.

I respectfully suggest that you install the chinese made flex line in your nearest dumpster. Obviously, they are not up to the quality needed for a replacement. Get in touch with Robert Shewman, 610-933-6637 or e-mail him gadgiteer@aol.com . He makes a new flex line that is good for use with today's fuels and the fittings are spot on. I use them in my cars and had no trouble with the installation. Also, I have no connection with Shewman other than being a satisfied customer. Ken

hi fuel pump flex line I have used, tapered copper washers, do not leak and car starts with out a electric fuel pump sitting all winter here is who makes them about 2$ Each Then & Now Automotive 447 Washington St Weymouth, Ma 02188 Ph: 781.335.8860 Fax: 781.335.1925 hope this helps 37Ragtopman, TRY sticking with USA MADE parts for less trouble, I believe there is NO reason to BUY CHINESE parts, in the long run they cost MORE $ like calling for a FLATBED
