I am reading the Jan-Feb V8 times article on page 43. It is Ron's garage and he talks about oil. Where does one buy an SL oil? Have spend some time on computer and am not finding anything. What do you use?

SL Oil has become obsolete and replaced by later API rating oils which don't provide the required Zinc, Phosphorus, and Sulfur additives to properly protect the flat tappets and camshaft lobes of older engines.
I personally use Pennzoil SAE 30 Detergent API Service SN oil along with Red Line Engine Oil Break-In Additive which contains the required zinc additive package. Follow the instructions on the additive container label.

You can buy specialty oils like Hemmings, racing oil or diesel oil to get a high ZDDP content, but IMHO, you do not need it as the antiwear additives in the major brands of oil should give you enough protection after break-in.

When you search the internet for cams that wore out, you will find that they all failed soon after a rebuild and regrind of the cam. I have not found any cases where the engine has 10,000 miles or more and the cam suddenly failed.
