Topic: changing out a master cylinder

The master cylinder in my 1948 Ford went south. My question is this: Since I do not have a lift and have to crawl under the car, is it easier to change the cylinder by removing the floor board and working from inside the car?

I don't know about a 1948 Ford, but on my 1940 Mercury, you cannot access the master cylinder bolts from inside the car. I believe you would have the same problem on your car and know that you would not be able to access the pushrod from inside the car.

I would either jack it up and support it on good jack stands or pay someone with a lift to do the job.

You'll have to work from below the car. No way around it...

  master cylinder replacement.,
you will need to get under the car,!!
are you a EARLY FORD V8 member,? maybe if you are in a local chapter, a fellow V8 member might help you
being a V8 member has many pluses, be sides a great bi monthly magazine,
a GOOD set of car ramps should be high enough to access the master cylinder,
I would bench bleed the new master, before replacing, might save some time getting the air out of system,
if done quick ,bleeding will be real easy, also I use synthetic brake fluid, does not harm paint and works well,
and does not have that stink and what it does to your hands,
also WHITE POST RESTORATIONS, machines the cylinders and install new brass sleeves that will never pit again,
this is just another option,
my 2 cents 37Ragtopman
