  not expert on this
but what about changing the timing cover and the later type dist ?
I never heard of using later parts into a earlier dist, never thought about this,
you will have to change the inner dist caps also to match the rotor you are going to use,

There is no practical advantage in doing so. In fact, the 32-36 point set is somewhat less expensive than the later 37-48 type, and won't require changing additional parts.

i have a 35 sh*ll and the inner parts from a later year. i just wanted to make due with what i got.
also i heard that the later points were better quality.
i don't know if thats true.

Hard to tell what you have from here, but mixing an early body with later components depends on what is from where. Major parts, such as the rotors and inner caps are not interchangeable between models. The early distributors were used 32-36. They are different from the 37-41. A "crab" type was used 42-45, and then the "pancake" distributor finished the run thru '48. In addition, coil configurations also changed. Your best bet is to obtain a complete distributor and either rebuild it yourself, or have it done. As for point quality, all years are equal, except that the repro point sets sold today are often of inferior quality for all years. Skip Haney does lots of distributors, and a call to him may be in order. You can reach him at 941/505-9085.

you can use a late 36 distributor which accepts the later style points, rotor and inner caps. you can also install the 41 advance curve by using the 11A cam plate and weights Have to use the late 36 style coil with the flat top, but skip can rebuild that.

I would just send the complete distributor with the coil and condenser and have him do it over complete. Easy to get it done and only about a week turn around with rebuilt coil etc and test run and set up on his Ford machine.
