Topic: 34 foot starter jump

My start switch needs rebuilding. Can I safely use jumper cables from an
auxiliary 6v battery with + cable to engine ground and touch the - cable
directly to the starter bolt?

Yes....Be sure to turn the ignition switch to 'ON'....

Assuming you have done the troubleshooting to confirm the start switch is the problem, you can use one jumper cable from the neg. terminal on your car battery, to the cable connection at the starter. You need to connect at the battery first, so there are no sparks there in case there is hydrogen gas present at the battery, then be careful how you "jump" at the starter, as you don't want to damage the threads on the starter stud with arcing. Touch the jumper cable to the crimped terminal on the starter cable.

  hi MICHV8
why not replace the starter switch or rebuild it, first,
jumping the switch is a pretty hazardous ,
be CARE FULL,
you could for testing ,,,wire a 6 volt FORD solenoid between the positive cables. and use a push button switch,
just a thought.
it also could be the starter,
I just had my starter rebuilt by CERTIFIED AUTO ELECT in OHIO, using new high torque fields and a
NEW OLD STOCK BENDIX, like FORD Used,
hope this helps, 37Ragtopman Maine
