Rightly or wrongly, when I want to lift the front -end of my 48 2dr ,i put the jack in centre of I-beam, I got thinking if this would eventually bend the I-beam or hurt it in any way. Johna

Those axles are real tough. No way would that bend the axle. Jacking up a car in the middle of the axle can be a little dangerous depending on the type of jack that you use. It could slap off the jack from one side or the other.

"It could slip off the jack from one side or the other." Yeah, I had that scary experience. I guess I didn't have the jack exactly centered. The whole car slid sideways. The jack stayed put; the concave axle slid on the jack's lifting pad. Luckily no harm done this time.
