Topic: 1939 Coupe Centre grill moulding

Porsche    -- 04-22-2020 @ 2:22 PM
  I am restoring a 1939 standard coupe.
The centre grill moulding has been re-chromed and the bottom of the V and the 8 are polished out slightly.
I am looking for a replacement piece.
Macs sells a reproduction piece that has a blue painted detail.
Is that correct or should the background be chrome?

Although (seemingly) nearly all '39 standards on the concourse have the recessed area of the hood ornament painted the so called "Ford Blue" they are absolutely incorrect.
The only ones that were painted that color were service parts.
Off the assembly line, the recess was painted to match body color.
The photo attached is one of the standard coupes I'd restored. This one did 999 both times out. You can, I believe, easily see why it even makes sense to match the body color.

Here's another coupe I'd done. This one also did 999 but was only shown once.
I believe this car (photo lighting) really shows why Ford painted that area to match body color.

  Hi Mike,
So my ‘39 deluxe has the blue V8 on the grill as well as on the hubcaps and bumpers! My coupe is black, which is correct or not?
Thanks,
Don
