Looking for some advice on splash pans. This forum is always helpful. I've been looking for a passenger side splash pan for my 37 slantback and have been offered a 40 splash pan. Will that work in my 37? John

Splash pans for 1937 were different. There is the 78- part number and the 74- part number. Is it -- 85 hp or 60 hp? According to the April 1949 Ford Chassis Parts & Accessories Catalogue 74-6775 RH 60 hp and 74-6776 LH 60 hp the only pans listed for the 85 hp 1937 are part # 91A-6775 and 91A-6776 (37-41) Hope this helps -- and could answer your question about if 40 are similar. (oh, by the way, the catalogue lists them as no longer supplied)

hi ZERO I think it is the same from 1937 to 1941 but you will have to disconnect the drag link from the pitman arm to install. so get a tie rod puller, so not to damage the drag link. hope this helps 37Ragtopman

They (39 / 40) are not the same as '37. However, a '39 or '40 pan will fit. There were a number of changes in '39 and '40. Many folks don't realize even they (39 vs 40) are different. If concourse correct is your desire, perhaps contact Mike Driskell. Mike "Kube" Kubarth

He was asking about the right side pan, not the left side.

Hi everyone, Thanks for your feed back. It's a model 78, 85 horsepower. I am looking for the passenger side which I believe would be the right side. I've heard from a number of people who say a 40 splash will fit so that will be my plan B. It far from a concourse car, just one to drive around and have fun. Paint is missing from the fenders, headliner is torn and tattered but it's solid. Again thank you all and everyone please stay safe. I think some of us are in that vulnerable age group. John Z

Many of those "splash pans" were removed over the years when maintenance was done on the car and not replaced. The car will run just fine without them so you can drive the car while you look for one. May I ask why you want to replace it?

39Ken, The bottom pans were not so much "splash pans" as they are commonly referred to. They were part of the engine cooling design. While the car will run "just fine", the pans actually do make a difference... Mike "Kube" Kubarth

Ken, No particular reason. I just realized it was missing and hoping it was an easy find. I'm finding out that may not be the case. Now that i'm told it actually serves a purpose my search will continue. John

If the engine compartment 'splash pans' were only cosmetic thrifty H. Ford would have eliminated them early on in the game. Bill 36 5 win delx cpe

Guys, I'm fully aware, and you're correct, in that the purpose for the "splash pan" (quote from the original post topic) was designed for air flow around the engine compartment to enhance cooling. I just mentioned it because so many Ford mechanics left them off for the reason mentioned and the car could be operated w/o the pan until John could find one. Engine compartment cooling could be the subject of a separate thread entirely considering the extent folks go to cool the engine. Ken
