Hello all. Rebuilding my '40 motor and looking for a good source for rings (3 1/16"), crank (-.010) and rod (-.020) bearings. Also need head studs and nuts and oil pump. Can anyone here advise? Hoping to have a video of the build and it running when it's complete and will be selling it. Also, opinions on 3 ring vs. 4 ring pistons?

Two good sources are Vanpelt Sales LLC and C & G Ford parts. Google them, they both have web sites.
Good luck & have fun.

On pistons, steel or aluminum? Whatever you do don't remove one ring on a 4 ring piston. As far as drag goes WW-II PWA radials used 5 rings sometimes. Page 65 of "Ford V-8 Service Bulletins 1941-1948 Complete" gives clearances for both types for the general those with later cars. 1940? let's look in the "Ford V-8 Service Bulletins 1938-1940 Complete Including all 1932-37 Revisions" after page 151. Oil Pump on 152, Cylinder blok 155 and on 163 Piston (Aluminum Alloy type) where the picture shows a 4-ring easily distinguished from the steel type by the slot in the skirt. A caution about flathead and dome type whether steel or aluminum not being interchangeable and facts about replacement types. The service manual books are available from Amazon in hardcover and from other sites.
