Topic: Restoration Progress / '46 Door Hinge Bolts

To all, I'm in the final stages of reassembly of my '46 Tudor after giving it attention (and money ) for the last few years...welding, priming, block standing, total interior rehab etc.

It has been fun, and I can't wait to drive it.

Anyone know where I can get the door hinge bolts...oval top with fine thread (and matching nuts) ?? I am missing a few (there are short ones on one hinge and longer ones of the other.)

Can't put this back together...and nobody seems to have these bolts. Thanks

The 44-52 body parts catalog gives the hinge bolts as 5/16 X 24 thread with a flat head ranging from 1 3/4 to 1.88" in length. A well stocked hardware dealer should be able to supply them. I don't know of any vendor who carries them. Hinge pins are available, but hinge to body bolts are not in any of my resources. Ford had a habit of using odd thread pitches, so it may take some searching. If you can find longer bolts of that size and thread, they can be shortened, if necessary, for the application. Be sure to obtain a nut or two so they can be put on the bolt before you cut it off. This will allow the threads to be cleared.

Roy Nacewicz Enterprises, Ltd (734 654-9450) www.fordbolts.com offers these bolts.

I think they should be oval head. Most likely the 46 had a phillips head. The length is not that important as the A pillar has a lot of room behind it. Even though the Early Ford V-8 book says that 42 had straight screws, I have seen both in 42 and 46. The book says Phillips 3-26 for 46 and up.
