Topic: Radial Tire/Bias tires tires

I have ( 2 ) 1950 sedans, one has all radials, the other has all bias tires. the one with radials tracks very straight with literally no moement of the steering wheel. The one with bias always needs just a little movement ,right or left to keep it tracking straight .

Question:
i want to put the front wheels with the radials on the front of the car with bias, to see if it tracks better. if it does, can I exchange the rears on both cars so the both have radials on the front and bias on the back?? Otherwise I'd have a big expense to buy (4) radials and have (4) like new bias w/w tires of no use/ hard to sell.

Do not mix radial and bias ply tires on the same car - this is a dangerous combination. Bite the bullet and buy a set of new radial tires for the car that currently has the bias ply tires on it.

Hi....You might just need some adjustment of the steering box on the car with the bias ply tires. The procedure is outlined in the repair manual for adjusting play in the gears. I did it on my 1951 coupe. BT

  Thanks,
I've been all through the steering box adjustments, new sector, new idler arm, and all of the linkage. All is good! it looks like my only out is (4) new radials. I'll just put the radials on the front in place of the bias, for a test ride to see if it handles better. If it does, I'll just have to get a set of four.
