Topic: Water temperature gage 36 Ford

Temperature gage seems to have nothing in it or I can see no red when engine is warmed up. Should I buy a new sending unit or have mine refurbished and if so, by whom?

I bought a new temp guage for my 38 coupe, in a few years the red fluid turned clear, sent one for our 38 conv. and got restored, works fine for 10 years, but don't remember where I sent it, cost about $150.00

this outfit in portland, OR can rebuild the temp gauge assembly. for about $250 as I recall.

https://www.joesantiqueauto.com/aboutus.html sells one for $150. part no. 68-10883, pg. 42 of his catalog. it's an import, but joe will be honest with you about how good it is.

fenbach - regarding Joe's Antique Auto catalog, the 2020 addition page 42 part#68-10883 notes that it has been discontinued, but I still appreciate your intended support. Any other suggestions?

  al,
I was looking at an older printed catalog from joe. sorry to send you on a wild goose chase.
C&G has one, as does macs, both with the same part number, 68-10883. macs wants $180. C&G says theirs won't fit without modification. and here's a note from macs.

This is a capillary tube gauge which may take on air during shipping. This may lead to an inaccurate reading out of the box. Prior to installation in the vehicle, submerse the sender bulb in boiling water to cycle the fluid in the tube. This will remove the air from the tube and the fluid will return to "0" on the gauge.

you could try that to see if you can resurrect yours. google the part no. you may find other vendors.
