  Sierra. 50/50 mix.

Sierra doesn't foam as much as the ethylene glycol antifreeze such as Prestone, it is also more friendly to the environment.

Prestone and the other brands of antifreeze will do a good job of protecting your engine from freezing and corrosion.

The choice is yours, but make sure that you follow the recommendations on the bottle for mixing with water. More is not always better.

I'd use a long life antifreeze. Any reputable brand will do.

Be cautious about selecting antifreeze for your old car. Today, there are many choices that may not be appropriate. Many of us use "Sierra" (propylene glycol) because it is considered to be safer than others, at least for the environment. The familiar "Prestone" variety of ethylene glycol is a derivative of natural gas, and is an alcohol based formula. One important ingredient in many of today's antifreeze formulas is silica, actually a fine sand, which has been traced to premature water pump seal failure if too generous. It was added when aluminum heads and blocks arrived on the scene. According to recent service bulletins received at our shop, incorrect selection, particularly for modern cars, can result in damage that may not be covered by warranty. All antifreeze becomes acidic over time, and should be replaced every three years, at least, with fresh anti-rust added annually. Be sure to read the label.
