According to reference materials I have, Ford Motor Company did not produce any car called a "Business Coupe" or a "Business Man's Coupe" during the 1937, 1938 and 1939 model years (I won a $50 bet over this issue). I know that there was a 1940 Business Coupe (with jump seats), which is called by some -- but not Ford-- an "Opera Coupe." It seems that some folks call any 5 window 3-passenger coupe a "Business Coupe". Besides 1940, what years did Ford have an actual Business Coupe? Thanks . . . 78-730B

Well according to the V8 Album published by the Early Ford V8 Club the only other years that Ford advertised a Business Coupe was 47 and 48. They are not noted as having jump seats and if you wanted a rear seat there was the sedan coupe . According to the diagrams shown in the album there were a standard and deluxe business coupe in 1940. Standard had no rear seat Deluxe had the so called opera seats (Ford called them jump seats). In 1941 there was a coupe 11A-77 A,B, and C (deluxe, super deluxe, and standard with no rear seat, and Deluxe and Super Deluxe Coupes with jump seats 11A-67A and 11A -67B. None of these were noted as business coupes. I'm sure others will jump in on this

42 wagon, in 1940 you could get a business coupe in either standard or deluxe. Look around and you will find many standard business coupes. I've owned two and there is one currently in my garage. Hey guys I'm not looking to start an argument. All I did is reported what is shown in The V8 Album. It shows a diagram for the Standard Coupe 01A-77A without the jump seats and Standard Business Coupe 01A-67A with no diagram and a Deluxe Business Coupe 01A-67B with a diagram that shows the jump seats. If the Standard Business Coupe 01A-67A also had the jump seats fine. There is no diagram in the album to say one way or the other. TonyM merely asked what years Ford built a vehicle that they called a business coupe and what I reported back is what is shown in the Album.

I looked into the 1947 5-window coupe to understand a car I had seen in the early 50's I thought by trim and appearance was a 1946 coupe. You can find stuff about whether there would be one and whether one was produced before the 1947 restyle and before the late fall chassis changes in the club's 1941-48 Ford book. To find where the sedan coupe came from try Mercury.

When I was five years old my dad bought a brand new 1940 60HP standard coupe and it had rear fold down seats and that's where I had to live until I was old enough to drive it myself. We had that car a long time !
