With Lebaron-Bonney in bankruptcy and Cartouche (Eckler’s) having such a lousy reputation, does anyone know of a reputable source for an upholstery kit for my 38 2dr Std Humpback?

I'm in the same boat as you are. I've been checking out Cartouche and Classtique and they don't come close to L. B..
Materials, patterns, colors, ect. aren't even close. Even if you find an upholstery shop, that can match the exact details we are looking for, they then need to find the correct materials. It's a real dilemma.

I was in a bad spot with my 2 '34 projects. LeBaron Bonney only sent me a few items for my kits and then went under.
They got me for over $ 2400.00 bucks.
With advice from the guys on the Fordbarn I was able to connect with Jeff Hirsch at Hirsch Automotive and obtain the matching rose beige mohair and carpet to complete my projects.
During the 11 month wait for my kits from LB they kept sayig that they were unable to find a source for the mohair.
In reality they were not paying their bills and no one would ship to them.
I was told they sourced their mohair from Europe. Not the case.
I suspect that the material you need is available, you just have to play detective.
I was able to connnect with a local upholstery pro who saved my projects by using my supplied materials.
I won't be building any more cars after this.

Geeeeeeezzzzzzz, many of us Ford bods in the same boat!!! I too placed a full kit order with LeBron. I did get my sun visors recovered & returned. Whew .... That overall disappointment lasted 6 months. Ecklers danced a good tune and after 4 months ... I cancelled!!!
Should we all cry in out beer? Make mine Bud.

You might try SMS fabrics for a sample of the material.

Check the SMS Reviews before placing an order. Promises and "I'M SORRYS" come so easily.

I would go to Bill Hirsch for the correct fabrics for your particular car. They advertise in the V-8 Times and in other classic car magazines.

Wanted to add that my '41 Lebaron Bonney seat upholstery is tan LEATHER.
Now asking $1,200

I found out that L/B never didn't do my sun visors, they farmed them out to Acme in LA and then charged double for the service.

On the AACA website, someone has posted, that all of LeBaron Bonney's assets have been purchased by what might be SMS.

trjford8    -- 12-01-2019 @ 8:02 AM
According to the discussion on the AACA site, SMS in Canby, Oregon has made an offer for the LB assets. It s now up to the courts and attorneys to determine if they will accept the offer or make a counter offer. It is not a done deal at this point.
