Topic: 1949 Ford convertible top sags

I just purchased a 1949 Ford Convertible. It has a new top on it but the side rails sag to the point that the windows can not be fully closed. Does anyone know how to adjust these side rails? The top seems to go up and down ok.

Adjusting convertible tops is as much an art as a science. The top mechanism joints are joined by eccentric bolts. Very small adjustments make a big difference, and every adjustment affects others. The top must be properly installed to eliminate as much of the slack as possible, with the rest of any wrinkles pulled out as the top is latched. It is first tensioned by two places: the header bow on top of the windshield, and the back of the top where it meets the body. If these were not done properly, any attempt to remove slack will be futile. The pads must be in place. A friend had the top replaced on his '48 convertible, only to find that with the top raised and latched to the header, the doors wouldn't close! The best advice is to find a trim shop that is experienced in replacing convertible tops, and have them look at it. I suspect that whomever put the top on missed the target.
