Topic: 3/4 camshaft for 8BA

  Rebuilding a 50 8Ba, pistons +.060with 3 3/4 cramk.425 offey heads with 390 cfm holly on 4B intake. Trying to deside on a 3/4 camshaft two types longer duration with shorter lift OR shorter duration with higher lift. What do you guys think ?

  For that set up, we normally choose a stock cam. It produces a better idle, and has a broad power band for "everyday" driving. Stock Ford cams are well hardened, which is more than we can say about aftermarket shafts, which have shown a tendency for rapid wear. If you go to a higher lift, be sure that there is sufficient room in the heads. We install larger intake valves, usually Chevy, which helps the breathing.

  Brad, another thing to consider is that the lower zinc content in the
engine oils available today do not present an issue with a stock ford
camshaft.
