Topic: Radiator cap pressure

I had a new radiator from Shoebox installed on my 1953 flathead during a frame off restoration completed 1 yr ago. It did not come with a radiator cap. I just recently realized that the shop installed a 16lb cap instead of the recommended 7lb cap. The car runs in the normal temp range. Any problems with leaving this in place? Thanks!

Yes there is large increase in pressure with the 16# cap. The increased pressure can balloon the brass and possibly rip open a solder joint, the damage usually happens over time.
