Topic: Fan leaking oil

Hi folks, went to lub. my fan (47 merc. 59ab engine) when I filled the reservoir the oil just kept leaking out at the shaft. This is the 4th. or 5th. time I have done this but the first time it has leaked out. Is there a replacement seal for this and can the reservoir be taken apart, or do I have to buy a new fan hub etc.
I use 90w. oil in the hub. Thanks for any help you all can give me. Terry

I believe the service manual tells you to remove the screw, fill the fan housing with oil and then turn it so the hole is down to let the excess run out. You don't need a lot of oil in the housing.

As 42 wagon said drain the excess oil. I believe there is a wick like device in the hub to hold enough oil for lubrication.

Thanks guys , I do turn the oil hole down and drain out the excess oil. I was just concerned that the oil dripped out while I was filling it. But after looking in the green book at the drawing I realized that there is probably nothing to worry about. However I will keep my eye on it. Thanks for the info.
