Topic: help selling my '34 Cabriolet

carguy    -- 08-12-2019 @ 10:28 AM
I am going to put my original '34 Cabriolet up for sale but I don't have a feel for what it is worth. It is all original except for a few modifications that I have installed to make it more user friendly.

Any and all comments will be appreciated.

I would advertise the car in the Classified section of this website for the price/amount that YOU would like to get for it. It's free and can be repeated every month. You can edit your asking price or other details while the car is being advertised.

You can go to this site to get a ballpark figure of your cars value > https://www.nadaguides.com/Cars/1934/Ford/Model-40/2-Door-Convertible-Cabriolet/Values

Bill also check e-Bay. Don't bother to much with the asking prices, but look in the left column and look at the "completed items" or "sold' items. It will give you an idea of the current market before you decide to list the car. The current market on 30's and 40's cars is slow. Prices have not been rising and in fact have fallen in many cases. By the way that's a very nice old cabriolet.

Thanks guys, your information is very helpful. Now that I'm close to putting it on the market I'm beginning to wonder if I really want to do that. After all, it doesn't eat much any more.

Bill, if you have had it a long time it's always tough to give up. If you don't need to sell it, maybe stop and think about it some more. Like me it's hard to look at an empty spot in the garage.

  Bill---

That's a NICE Cabriolet!

How many people have you talked to over the years - "well. I used to own a 1931 Henrymobile, but I sold it. I sure wish I still had that car."

I agree with Tom - if you don't need to sell it - don't! It doesn't eat much, doesn't take up much space, and gives its proud owner a lot of happiness.

Happy summertime cruising in your beautiful Cabriolet.

Tom

Happy Cruising in your beautiful car, my friend.

Tom

Looks pretty nice. I bet a lot of guys would love to have it. Me, for instance, but I couldn't afford it.

Looks like a $35,000-$40,00 car to me. Higher if a solid original Ford to somebody who wants a good tour car, it's great for that.

1934 Ford's since 1972

A beautiful maroon'34 cabriolet just crossed the auction block at Mecum in Monterey for $39,000. I am amazed it went that low. A few years ago it would have been at least 60K.
I will be selling off everything i have a little at a time now.

As seen at the Mecum Auction - https://www.mecum.com/lots/CA0819-380866/1934-ford-cabriolet/

That red cab is a different animal than Bill's . Both are nice in their own way. does the $39,000 include buyers premium?

I decided it was time to hand over my '47 convertible after 25 years so someone else could enjoy it. The market for collector cars is very flat, and appears to be still falling. Many are selling far below the initial investment and cost of restoration. I checked the NADA book for a look at the market for similar cars, and set my asking price well below the bottom.

I just sold my original 36 Cabriolet. It started at $69,000.00 about 3 years ago! Dropped it about 5K at a time. Had advertised on E-Bay, Craig's List and Hemmings. You just have to be patient and wait for the right buyer. I did not have to sell mine either, but the wife would no longer ride in the car. Just too bumpy. I sold the car at one of the largest car shows in the nation "Back to the 50's!" I sold it for $55,000.00. The price has dropped tremendously for 30 and 40 automobiles. I felt very fortunate to get what I did.
